If your nest is lucky enough to have a second chick hatch in it, the Mabula Ground Hornbill Project will hand rear it for release back into the wild, into a non-viable group, or to join the Captive Breeding Programme.        

Our chicks are named for their nest.

 

 

During the next three years The Mabula Ground Hornbill Project plan to make and put up these artificial nest boxes in the Limpopo River Valley, and other areas of South Africa, to encourage breeding - where the lack of suitable nesting trees is one of the reasons for the decline in the population of this important flagship species.
